DEVELOPMENTAL EDIT

$0.025 CAD per word

This edit addresses the big picture problems; plot, pacing, character issues (arcs, motivation, behaviour), dialogue, structure, and setting.

What it includes:

Preliminary discussion (approx. time 30 mins - 1 hr): We will set up a time to discuss the project by whatsapp, zoom, google meets, or another platform we are both comfortable with. This will help ensure I am the right editor for your project. This occurs prior to signing any service of agreement.
- The discussion will include but isn't limited to:
  - What your goals are for the manuscript?
  - What you expect from the edit?
  - What are your concerns about your manuscript (perceived weaknesses, etc)?
  - Plot points and subplots.
  - Characters.
In-line comments: These are comments within the manuscript that will highlight areas of strength, areas to consider revising, examples on in-text solutions, questions, and reactions.
Editorial letter: This includes an overview of the story's plot, the manuscript’s strengths, areas to consider revising with discussions on solutions, and a plan on how to approach your edit.
Final discussion (approx. time 30 mins - 1 hr): This takes place after you have received the editorial letter and in-line comments and have had a chance to go over the information. This is an option to touch base and discuss different aspects of your manuscript, get clarification if needed, do some brainstorming, and discuss next steps. This can be done on a similar platform as the preliminary discussion, or alternatively you can always email me with any questions.

COPYEDIT

$0.015 CAD per word

The goal of this edit is to help your voice shine through, while correcting grammatical issues.

What it includes:

I will check for grammar, punctuation, spelling, missing words, repetitive words, and unneeded words.
I also look at consistency, sentence flow and structure, paragraph flow, and repetitive information (have you accidently told us the same thing three times in a row?).
A detailed style sheet that includes information on characters, setting, unique objects, and style choices for spelling (American or UK).
Resources used for this edit is Chicago Manual of Style (17th edition) and the Canadian Oxford Dictionary or Merriam-Webster dictionary.

PROOFREADING

$0.01 CAD per word

This as the final run-through before the big performance — publishing your book! If you have a style sheet from your copyedit wonderful, send it with your manuscript, if not I will make up a rough one while I proofread.

What it includes:

Editing for spelling, grammar, punctuation, inconsistencies, missing words, and similar issues.
Checking for consistency in chapter titles (are they all the same size, same font?), page numbers, and any other similar issues.

BETA READ

$1.50 CAD per 1,000 words

*$10 CAD for projects 6,000 words and under*

The focus of a beta read is on structure, characters, dialogue, setting, plot, and writing style. This is done from a reader’s perspective.

What it includes:

Comments in the manuscript that highlight my reactions, feelings, thoughts, questions, awkward sentences, and quotes I love.
Obvious grammar and spelling issues that stand out to me (This is not a thorough proofread).
Beta reader notes with discussions on characters, areas to take a second look at (ie. plot holes, structure, dialogue), general thoughts/ questions section, and answers to specific question given to me by the author.
